'Cowley: A self guided tour' is a self-guided walking or cycling tour in the format of a portable booklet, inviting people from south-East Oxford to enjoy, explore and evaluate the changed road layouts in Cowley's three initial 'low traffic neighbourhood' trial areas.
I designed it with support from Active Oxfordshire and funding from Oxfordshire County Council. The booklets were printed by Oxford Greenprint.
The tour combines a wellbeing-focussed health walk route with group discussion and reflection on current urban design debates, grounding these in the history of the area. It includes meditations on how the roads have changed over time and how they feel to use now. It demonstrates a method for gathering embodied feedback on urban design schemes which might not be captured in formal consultations.
