Cave of Collective Dreaming & Drawing at Makespace Oxford

The Cave of Collective Dreaming & Drawing was an interactive installation shown at the launch event of Makespace Oxford, a new affordable studio and meeting space in Jericho. Makespace Oxford is a re-purposed office building scheduled for demolition, which has been let out for community use in the meantime.

The cave was assembled during the renovation and moving-in process of Makespace Oxford, with found materials discarded during the process. Like the Makespace itself, it was a temporary space of refuge and inspiration where people could dream together and try out new ideas.

Visitors to the Makespace were invited to lie down with their head inside the blacked-out cave, using a torch for light, and contribute sketches of their dreams for what the space could be used for. Makespace Oxford is a Community Interest Company and has been developed by Transition by Design, Aspire Oxford, Community Action Groups (CAG) Oxfordshire and the Broken Spoke Bike Co-op.
